The Germans advanced as much as 10 to 18 kilometers on the first day of the offensive. As the Soviets were pushed back from their first defensive line, the panzers were able to exploit the more open terrain near Syrtsevo and Verkopenye. On the morning of July 8th, the Grossdeutschland Division launched its assault against the villages.
Objectives: Hold the village to the north and clear the area of enemy units.
